our love story

It all began on an ordinary day in 2015—move-in day at Fordham University. Matthew had just arrived on campus, ready to start college, and was assigned a dorm room with none other than Brianna’s older brother, Daniel. When Brianna first met Matthew, sparks didn't fly—truth be told, she thought he was kind of a jerk. But life has a funny way of rearranging the pieces.

As the weeks went on, Matthew would tag along with Daniel on visits home. Slowly, those casual visits turned into quiet moments, exchanged glances, and conversations that lingered a little longer than they should have. It felt like a star-crossed lover situation—her brother’s friend, of all people. And yet, beneath all the layers of awkward timing and unsaid words, love began to take root.

Eventually, those subtle looks and sweet nothings blossomed into something real. They became a couple—one that would grow through every stage of life together. Through college and post-grad years, through countless adventures and far-flung travels, and through long nights separated by distance and time zones, Brianna and Matthew held on.

For nearly six years, they made a long-distance relationship work across states, continents, and busy lives. It wasn’t easy—but their friendship, their commitment, and their unwavering belief in each other made it feel effortless. In 2022, on a golden evening in Koh Samui, Thailand, Matthew proposed. And in 2023, they finally moved in together in New York City, putting down roots after years of navigating love across the miles.

What makes their story special isn’t just its longevity, but its soul-deep steadiness. No breaks, no doubts, no detours—just two people who found something rare and never let it go. In a way, they're like high school sweethearts, only better—because they’ve loved each other through everything and come out stronger, sillier, and more in love than ever.

They are true soulmates—best friends who fell in love and never stopped choosing each other. And now, they can’t wait to spend forever together.

- *White, ivory, cream, and any shades resembling white are reserved exclusively for the bride and may not be worn.*

Wedding Ceremony & Reception (Saturday, September 5th): Summer Formal
- Dress Code: Summer Formal (Mediterranean) **White, ivory, cream, and any shades resembling white are reserved exclusively for the bride and may not be worn.**

- Our wedding will take place in Malta at the height of summer, so please dress with both elegance and comfort in mind.

- For women, we encourage full-length or formal midi dresses in light, breathable fabrics such as silk, chiffon, organza, linen blends, or fine cotton. Color is welcome and encouraged. Think elevated, polished, and festive rather than dark or heavy.

- For men, suits are expected, but ties are optional. Linen or lightweight summer suits are perfectly appropriate. Lighter colors and breathable materials are encouraged due to the climate.

- Overall, the look should feel upscale, refined, and celebratory, while still appropriate for a hot Mediterranean summer. This is not cocktail or casual attire. Please avoid overly casual pieces such as sundresses, short dresses, denim, sneakers, or beachwear.

- When in doubt, err on the side of formal rather than casual.

More information on attire to come...

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will take place indoors, followed by an outdoor cocktail hour. The reception will be held indoors, with the after party moving back outdoors to enjoy the evening air.

What weather can we expect, and should we plan accordingly?

In early September, Malta typically enjoys warm, sunny weather with clear skies and gentle coastal breezes. Daytime temperatures average between 80–85°F (27–29°C), with slightly cooler evenings around 70–75°F (21–24°C). Rain is uncommon but not impossible. We recommend lightweight, breathable attire for daytime events and a light layer or wrap for the evening.

Are children invited to the wedding?

While we absolutely adore your little ones, we are aiming to keep the event more manageable and ask that only those specifically named on the invitation—including children—attend. We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all our guests.

Can I bring a plus-one or guest?

We kindly ask that only those listed on your invitation attend. Due to logistical planning and guest count limits, we’re unable to accommodate additional guests or plus-ones not specifically invited. Thank you for understanding—we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Schedule & Events

Are there events planned other than the wedding day itself?

The weekend festivities will begin with a Welcome Party on the evening of Friday, September 4th, at the Sheer Bastion in Senglea, followed by the wedding celebration on Saturday, September 5th at the Phoenicia in Floriana (just outside the city walls of Valletta) and a Farewell Brunch on the morning of Sunday, September 6th, at the Contessa Restaurant at The Phoenicia.

Travel & Accomodations

What is the best way to travel to Valletta, Malta?

We’re getting married at The Phoenicia Malta, and we’ve secured a limited number of discounted rooms there for our guests. You are not required to stay at the venue, and there are plenty of hotels at different price points within walking distance or a short drive from Valletta. We’ve also arranged preferential rates at the Hilton Malta, and guests are welcome to book any other hotels or Airbnbs that fit their preferences.

For full details—including booking codes, rate information, deadlines, and links to all recommended hotels—please visit the Accommodations page of our website.
The most convenient way to reach Valletta is by flying into Malta International Airport (MLA), the island’s only airport. It serves numerous direct flights from major European cities and connects easily through hubs like London, Rome, Paris, and Frankfurt.

From the airport, Valletta is approximately a 15–20 minute drive by taxi or car service. We recommend arranging transportation in advance or using a licensed airport taxi or ride-hailing service upon arrival.

More detailed travel tips, including transfer options and local recommendations, will be shared closer to the date.

Which airport should guests fly into?

Malta International Airport (MLA), which serves numerous direct flights from major European cities and connects easily through hubs like London, Rome, Paris, and Frankfurt.

Are there hotel blocks or recommended hotels with special rates available?

Yes, we have secured a room block at The Phoenicia Malta, where the wedding events will take place, as well as an additional nearby hotel for alternative accommodations. More details, including booking links and rates, will be shared soon.

What transportation options are available from the airport to hotels?

Malta International Airport (MLA) is approximately 15–20 minutes by car from Valletta and The Phoenicia Malta. Transportation options include:

Taxi: Licensed airport taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. A one-way trip to Valletta typically costs around €20–€25.

Rideshare: Apps like Bolt and eCabs operate throughout Malta and are often slightly cheaper than taxis.

Private Transfers: The Phoenicia offers pre-arranged car service for guests—please contact the hotel directly for availability and pricing.

Car Rental: Available at the airport, but not recommended unless you plan to explore the island extensively, as parking in Valletta is limited.

Should I rent a Car?

For the wedding weekend, renting a car is not necessary and generally not recommended—especially if you're staying in Valletta or at The Phoenicia. The city is compact, walkable, and much of it is pedestrian-only or restricted to local traffic. Parking is limited and can be difficult to navigate.

Taxis, rideshare apps like Bolt and eCabs, and hotel-arranged transfers are convenient and reliable for getting around. If you plan to explore other parts of Malta before or after the wedding—such as Gozo, Mdina, or the Blue Grotto—a rental car might be worth considering for those days. Otherwise, you'll be better off without one.

Is there parking available on site at the Phoenicia Hotel?

Yes, The Phoenicia Malta offers on-site parking for guests, including a private underground car park. Valet service is also available. However, parking is limited and may be prioritized for hotel guests with reservations.

If you plan to drive, we recommend contacting the hotel in advance to confirm availability and any applicable fees.

Do I need a visa or special documentation to travel to Malta?

Likely not. Visa requirements for Malta depend on your nationality.

U.S., U.K., EU, Canadian, and Australian passport holders do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) for tourism purposes.

Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from Malta.

If you're traveling from a country that requires a Schengen visa, Malta is part of the Schengen Area, and standard Schengen visa rules apply.

If you truly are not sure, we recommend checking with your country’s official travel website or the Embassy of Malta to confirm current entry requirements based on your citizenship and travel dates.

Do U.S. passport holders need a visa or ETIAS to travel to Europe for the wedding?

At this time, no action is required for U.S. passport holders. The ETIAS travel authorization (often referred to as a “Euro visa”) is not yet in effect. ETIAS is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026, with an expected start date of October 1, 2026.

The European Union will formally announce the exact start date several months in advance of launch. Until that official announcement and implementation, U.S. travelers may continue to enter Europe under the current visa-free rules.

We recommend checking official guidance closer to the wedding date, but no ETIAS application is needed at this time.

Transportation for Wedding Events

Will transportation be provided for wedding events?

Because guests will be staying in different areas across Malta, it is not feasible to provide transportation to every event. To ensure the wedding day runs smoothly, we will centralize transportation only for the ceremony and reception, with all guests gathering at one location. For all other events, transportation should be arranged individually.

Wedding Day (Ceremony & Reception):
We will provide group transportation on the wedding day from The Phoenicia Malta to the church in Mdina (the Old City, approximately 30 minutes away), and then back to The Phoenicia for the reception.

All guests using the provided transportation on the wedding day should meet at The Phoenicia prior to the church ceremony for departure. A time to meet will be given closer to the wedding day.

If you prefer to arrange your own transportation on the wedding day, that is perfectly fine. Taxis and ride-share services are readily available and affordable throughout Malta.

Welcome Party:
We will not be providing transportation to the welcome party at Sheer Bastion at the Cugo Gran Macina. It is a short trip from Valletta, and taxis are easy to arrange.

Morning-After Brunch:
We will not be providing transportation for the morning-after brunch at Contessa, located at The Phoenicia.

In short: transportation will be provided only on the wedding day, with all guests meeting at The Phoenicia for group transport. For all other events, guests should plan to arrange transportation individually.

What if I need special accommodations or transportation assistance?

If you require special accommodations or assistance with transportation due to a disability, medical need, or mobility concern, please let us know in advance. We want all guests to be comfortable and able to fully enjoy the weekend, and we will absolutely help coordinate appropriate arrangements for accessible transportation options. Because transportation outside of the wedding day is arranged individually, advance notice is especially important so we can assist where possible.

Attire & Practical Details

What is the dresscode for each event?

Welcome Party (Friday, September 4th): Cocktail Attire
- For women, cocktail dresses, elegant midis, or elevated evening sets are appropriate. Light, breathable fabrics are encouraged. Color is welcome and encouraged. White, ivory, cream, and any shades resembling white are reserved exclusively for the bride and may not be worn.
- For men, dress shirts with slacks or lightweight suits are appropriate. Jackets are encouraged but not required. Ties are optional.
- The overall look should feel stylish, elevated, and celebratory, while remaining appropriate for warm weather. This is not casual attire. Please avoid sundresses, denim, sneakers, beachwear, or overly informal pieces.
- When in doubt, dress up, not down.

**Important Attire Note for Cathedral**: As our ceremony will take place during a traditional Catholic Mass at the Cathedral, we kindly ask all guests to dress with appropriate formality and modesty in mind.
• Dresses should not be sleeveless, excessively low-cut, high-slit, or mini length. This is especially important for anyone participating in readings during the Mass.
• If wearing a sleeveless or strapless dress, a simple shawl or wrap is perfectly acceptable and sufficient while inside the Cathedral.
• Please note that stiletto heels are not permitted directly on the Cathedral marble. Flats or block heels are acceptable. The historic flooring is extremely delicate and can be easily damaged. However, we will provide heel covers at the church that you can put on your stilettos if you choose to wear them.

Farewell Brunch (Sunday, September 6th): Elevated Casual
- Relaxed but refined—sundresses, breezy skirts, or tailored separates for women; chinos, dress shorts, or polos for men. Leave gym wear and flip-flops behind.

What type of footwear is appropriate for the venues?

Most events will take place indoors or on solid, even ground. However, there are a few portions of the weekend where comfortable, walkable footwear is recommended:

There is a five-minute walk between the ceremony and reception, which may include cobblestone streets.

The Welcome Party is also within walking distance, but the route may involve hilly streets or uneven surfaces.

We suggest wearing formal shoes that are practical for walking, such as block heels, wedges, or elegant flats for women, and dress shoes with good support for men. Stilettos and delicate soles are best reserved for venues rather than the walk between them.

Are there any local cultural considerations or customs we should be aware of?

Malta is a predominantly Catholic country with a rich cultural heritage and strong traditions. While locals are welcoming and accustomed to visitors, here are a few considerations to keep in mind:

Church Etiquette: The wedding ceremony will take place in a church, so respectful attire is expected. Shoulders should be covered during the ceremony, and hemlines should be modest. A shawl or wrap is a simple solution if your outfit is more revealing.

Punctuality: While Mediterranean culture is relaxed in many ways, formal events like weddings are taken seriously. Arriving on time is appreciated and considered respectful.

Public Behavior: Maltese people are warm and friendly, but public displays of excessive drunkenness or disorderly conduct—especially near religious or historic sites—are generally frowned upon.

Tipping: Service charges are often included, but rounding up or leaving 5–10% for good service in restaurants and taxis is appreciated.

Overall, showing courtesy, dressing appropriately in sacred spaces, and being mindful of your surroundings will go a long way.

Should guests bring anything specific (e.g., sunblock, sunglasses, wraps for cooler evenings)?

Yes—while Malta in early September is beautifully warm and sunny, a few practical items will help ensure you're comfortable throughout the weekend:

Sunglasses and Sunblock: Days can be bright and UV levels high, especially during outdoor portions of events.

Wrap or Light Jacket: Evenings can cool off slightly, particularly near the water, so a light layer is recommended.

Comfortable Dress Shoes: For short walks over cobblestones and uneven streets, choose footwear that balances style with stability.

Swimwear: If you plan to enjoy the pool at The Phoenicia or explore Malta’s beaches, don’t forget a swimsuit.

Adapters/Converters: Malta uses Type G electrical sockets (same as the U.K.), so guests traveling from outside Europe should bring the appropriate plug adapter.

We’ll also be sharing a packing guide closer to the date to help you prepare with ease.

Yes—professional hair and makeup services are available in Valletta, and we will be sharing a list of recommended local artists and salons for guests who wish to book appointments.

Since we’ll be staying right in the city center, there are also a number of salons and beauty studios within walking distance if you'd prefer to search for your own or use a trusted stylist. We recommend booking in advance, especially for the day of the wedding. More information will be included in our upcoming travel guide.

How can I book hair and/or makeup services?

We will be providing a list of recommended hair and makeup artists, along with their contact information and booking instructions, in our upcoming travel guide.

You’ll be able to reach out to them directly to schedule an appointment that works with your timing. As availability may be limited—especially on the wedding day—we recommend booking early once the information is shared.

What are the prices for hair and makeup services?

Prices will vary depending on the stylist, service, and location, but here are general estimates based on current rates in Valletta:

Hair Styling: €50–€100 (depending on style complexity and length)
Makeup Application: €60–€100 (including lashes, if applicable)
Hair + Makeup Package: €100–€180

Rates may be higher for bridal-style looks or early morning appointments. We’ll include exact pricing and booking details in the list of recommended providers in our upcoming travel guide. Advance booking is highly recommended, especially for the wedding day.
